The Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, BLG LOGISTICS and EUROGATE welcomed the envoy and chargé d'affaires a. i. of the US Embassy in Berlin, Mr Alan Meltzer (CDA), to the BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven on Tuesday. The visit focussed on an exchange about the performance of the ports of Bremen.
Alan Meltzer is an experienced professional diplomat in the senior foreign service and took up the position of envoy at the US Embassy in Berlin in July 2024. In his role as Chargé d'Affaires, he is currently the highest-ranking representative of the United States in Germany. ‘The main purpose of my visit to Bremerhaven is to gain a personal impression, meet the key players in the port industry and engage in a constructive dialogue,’ said Chargé Meltzer, who was accompanied by the Deputy US Consul General in Hamburg, Abigail Greenwald.
Chargé Meltzer was received by Kai Stührenberg, State Councillor to the Senator for Economics, Ports and Transformation, Matthias Magnor, Chairman of the Board of Management of BLG LOGISTICS GROUP AG & Co. KG, Michael Blach, BLG Board Member and EUROGATE Group Managing Director, and Robert Howe, Managing Director of bremenports GmbH & Co. KG.
‘Especially in times of global challenges, a trusting exchange and mutual understanding are the essential basis for a strong and cooperative relationship,’ said State Councillor Stührenberg in his welcoming address. ‘Welcoming Mr Chargé d'Affaires Alan Meltzer to Bremerhaven - our important port and business location - is an important signal of our close transatlantic ties. I look forward to the direct dialogue that will enable us to further develop joint perspectives, drive innovation and create sustainable solutions for the future.’
BLG CEO Matthias Magnor emphasised: ‘We are very pleased about Mr Chargé Meltzer's high-ranking visit. BLG has maintained close economic relations with the USA for many years, which we would like to develop further. Such meetings are essential to get to know each other better and to deepen our co-operation. On behalf of BLG and EUROGATE, I would like to thank Mr Chargé Meltzer very much for the time he has given us.’
The talks were followed by a tour of the terminal, during which the Chargé was able to gain an impression of the logistics processes and the efficiency of the Bremerhaven site.
