BLG has once again been recognised for its consistent commitment to sustainability: GS1 Germany awarded BLG Handelslogistik GmbH & Co. KG the Lean and Green 2nd Star. The award took place at the 31st Retail Logistics Congress in Cologne and underlines the sustainable success of BLG LOGISTICS in reducing CO2 emissions in warehouse and logistics processes.
BLG was already awarded the Lean and Green 1st Star in April 2021 for its successes between 2013 and 2018. The awarding of the 2nd Star honours the continuous further development and sustainable implementation of further measures in the period from 2019 to 2021, which recognises BLG's ongoing progress in the areas of sustainability and climate protection, according to the jury's statement.
"Being awarded the Lean and Green 2nd Star is a great confirmation of our strategy to make logistics processes more sustainable and efficient for our customers. For many years, we have been implementing measures to reduce CO2 emissions at various levels - be it through the use of energy-efficient technologies, the switch to climate-friendly energy sources or innovative approaches such as the use of drones for inventory," explains Christine Hein, Member oft he Executive Board & Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the BLG Group. „This award motivates us to continue on our path and further expand our contribution to climate protection."
Sustainability as a long-term strategy
BLG LOGISTICS pursues a comprehensive sustainability strategy that combines ecological, social and economic responsibility. With the ambitious ‘MISSION CLIMATE’ initiative, the company aims to become CO2-neutral by 2030. To this end, BLG has implemented numerous measures to reduce emissions in recent years.
"The results speak for themselves. In 2021, relative greenhouse gas emissions in the project scope were reduced by 45 per cent compared to 2013 and by 21 per cent compared to 2018," says Christine Hein.
The award of the Lean and Green 2nd Star confirms BLG LOGISTICS' approach: sustainability is an integral part of the corporate strategy and brings not only ecological but also economic benefits. The consistent optimisation of logistics processes enables more efficient workflows, a more reliable supply chain and stable cost structures in the long term. This also benefits customers, who can rely on sustainable and future-orientated logistics. The successes achieved to date have encouraged the company to continue along its chosen path and to shape the logistics of the future in a sustainable manner.
The Lean and Green Award is an initiative that originated in the Netherlands and recognises companies that have been able to reduce their CO2 emissions by a set percentage within a certain period of time. GS1 Germany manages the programme in Germany and enables participating companies to identify and implement individually suitable measures to reduce emissions.
