From the port straight to the field

Like rocks in the surf, the harvesting machines weighing several tons rise up from the sea of cars at the BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven. There is space for around 70,000 cars on the 295-hectare site. In between, there are more and more 11-ton vehicles intended for use in agriculture.

Just in time for the harvest season, the colleagues from the High& Heavy division have implemented a very special project. Together with the container experts from EUROGATE and the technical experts from BLG AutoTec, combine harvesters weighing several tons were unloaded, inspected and prepared for delivery to customers throughout Europe. The special thing about it is that BLG LOGISTICS now also offers the complete logistics package for high & heavy goods in the port from a single source, starting with unloading from the container ship, through handling at the terminal, to comprehensive technical services.

The complete logistics package from a single source
This summer, for the first time, BLG LOGISTICS realized the entire handling process from the arrival of the ship, through technical processing, to preparation for onward transport of the High&Heavy vehicles. The combine harvesters arrived at the port of Bremerhaven in open containers, so-called flat racks. After unloading from the container ship by the BLG subsidiary EUROGATE, the wheels were fitted directly at the quay and the machines were prepared for their onward journey by the High & Heavy experts at the BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven. The agricultural machinery was then taken to BLG's own AutoTec technology center. The largest car repair shop in Europe is located directly in the port. Technical services include pre-delivery inspection (PDI), cleaning and quality control as well as painting and conversion work if required. Depending on customer requirements, the vehicles are equipped with GPS receivers or anti-theft devices.

The wheels are fitted immediately after arrival on the container ship.

The handling of heavy cargo is a fundamental pillar of the port industry
With a handling volume of around 1.2 million tons of high & heavy goods per year, BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven is already one of the largest RoRo terminals of its kind in Europe. Last year, the area for heavy cargo handling was expanded by renting a new area, known as the "Roter Sand" southern port, which covers a total of 60,000 square meters. By expanding the area, BLG LOGISTICS has laid an important foundation for future projects in the High & Heavy segment.

The vehicles are individually equipped and processed in BLG's own technical center.
